A Mom, Wife, and Grandmother- Someone to Everyone

She held on for nine days.  She waited until she had been transported to her home by hospice before she would give up her fight; she waited for everyone to leave the room before she began to take the hand of Jesus.  As three of her children were attending to their dad in his room, my wife walked into the living room where hospice had set up the hospital bed to check on her mom.  She sees her mom's eyes are open so my wife called to her brother and sister as she knew the time had come for her mom to go.

Agnes "Nancy" DeMeola passed away peacefully at home on January 6, 2013.
Born in Newark, NJ, she and her husband over the years owned and operated several food industry businesses.
Preceded in death by her sister, Maureen Licitra, and brother, James Donnelly, she is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jerry DeMeola; sons, Jerry (Heather) DeMeola, Great Meadows, NJ; Michael (Karen) DeMeola, Ocala; daughters, Laura (Fred) LaTulipe, Lisa (Barry) Wilson, Christina (Byron) Durning, all of Ocala; brother, Frank Donnelly, Bethlehem, PA; sister, Joan Russell, Randolph, NJ; and 12 grandchildren; Ashley, Bryan, Jerry, Michael, Brandon, Victoria, Brittany, Byron, Presley, John Paul, Alyssa and Connor.

The service was absolutely beautiful.  As Nancy had always requested, the bag pipes were played to the tune of Amazing Grace.  I had the honor of being one of six Paul Bearers and the flowers were absolutely beautiful.

The family came together to say good bye but also celebrate life.  A life that will be like no other.  No pain, no suffering, only heart felt warmth and joy.

While she is gone a short while her presence is still very real as is her memory.  My sister-in-law made the comment to me " I could not possibly understand how it feels because I haven't ever lost a mom".  While that may be true, as it states in the title of this post "Someone to Everyone".  She meant something to everyone.  She may not have been my mom however she was very special.  I spent many nights up with her until 3 a.m talking and watching all of her favorite shows such as CSI,  Without a Trace, Criminal Minds, or the Golden Girls.

She was very young at heart.  She would sit with my kids and watch iCarly and laugh through the entire show.  She used to say "I love that Spence".    My kids miss her dearly as does the entire family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, warm hearts keep you close but it is your smile, laugh, and touch that we all miss the most.

We love you, we miss you, and you really are Someone to Everyone!
